Andra Blomkalns, MD, MBA
Chair, Stanford University Department of Emergency Medicine
Dr. Andra Blomkalns is a nationally recognized leader in academic emergency medicine, serving as Chair of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine since 2018, where she leads a large, high-performing department dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and excellence in patient care. A former President of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine and current member of the Association of Academic Emergency Medicine Chairs Executive Committee, she has played a significant role in advancing the field nationally. Her leadership at Stanford has driven forward-thinking initiatives in precision emergency medicine, artificial intelligence, diversity and inclusion, and climate health, while fostering a culture that integrates cutting-edge research with compassionate clinical care. As a Stanford Biodesign Faculty Fellowship alumna, she brings human-centered design into emergency medicine, and her research—particularly on Long COVID as Publications Chair for the NIH RECOVER Consortium—focuses on complex cardiovascular and inflammatory pathways. Throughout her career, including prior leadership roles at the University of Cincinnati and UT Southwestern, Dr. Blomkalns has remained deeply committed to mentoring future leaders and advancing the science and practice of emergency medicine.
