Ultrasound Credentialing

Emergency Medicine Ultrasound

Emergency Ultrasound credentialing follows the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) guidelines and policies. Generally speaking, an emergency physician is initially credentialed in the basic US applications once they have performed 25-50 quality assured ultrasounds per application, with a total of 150-300 total scans done. Maintenance of credentialing requires current US use, yearly additional US related CME or other lecture attendance. Procedural US credentialing requires 5-10 quality assured US scans per US guided procedure.

RDMS certification is not required in order to perform or bill for bedside emergency ultrasound as an emergency physician. It is an educational certification which states you have the qualifications for proper image acquisition.
