Advancing Critical Care

Multidisciplinary Emergency Critical Care Group

Our critical care education curriculum, developed by our Education Committee, for residents, fellows, RNs and faculty, embraces best practices in learning processes and resources, such as simulation, small group instruction, and bedside teaching. Just as critical care is constantly evolving, this curriculum is under continuous refinement to ensure leading edge aquisition of knowledge and skills.

Through mentorship, meetings, projects, and social gatherings, participants gain valuable guidance on career development, rotations, interview skills, fellowship applications, leadership, and other topics.

Our dedicated Education Committee is focused on:

  • Development and refinement of a critical care education curriculum
  • Mentorship through CCM Fellowship Application Process
  • Involvement and leadership in Emergency Critical Care research, education and QI Projects
  • Leadership of Emergency Critical Care research, education and QI projects
  • Assistance in obtaining grants, getting involved in hospital administration and becoming an educator

Education Committee

Our educational collaboration includes passionate educators among EM physicians, intensivists, and subspecialists, as well as other healthcare professionals, such as palliative care providers, FLEX nurses, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists.

Projects

Critical Care for Emergency Medicine Conference Content Library: Develop an open-source critical care library for presentation at emergency medicine resident conferences.

MCCM MD/RN Collaborative Education Session: Convene fellows, FLEX RN and program leadership monthly to discuss challenging cases seen in the ED.

Training Opportunities

Emergency Critical Care Elective

Through an unique elective opportunity, residents and fellows gain a familiarity and enhanced comfort level in handling critical care cases in the acute phase. Rotations of 1 to 4 weeks are available at any stage in residency or fellowship training.

Triage Elective

Residents in year 3 and year 4 can participate in a 1-2 week triage MICU fellow shift. The resident attends all code blues and addresses ED/floor consults and admission under a supervision of a MICU fellow.
