Innovations in Child-centered Care
Stanford Pediatric Emergency Medicine is committed to research, innovation, and child-centered care that creates an atmosphere of comfort for our most vulnerable population.
A Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, we offer comprehensive 24-hour emergency care that includes direct access to world-ranked pediatric specialists. Our "ouchless" pediatric ED is separate from our adult ED and our physicians are also Stanford School of Medicine faculty, representing some of the most innovative minds, trained in leading-edge best practices.
Santa Clara County has recognized Stanford’s Marc Andreessen and Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen Pediatric Emergency Department as a comprehensive care center for its ability to handle a broad spectrum of medical emergencies in young patients.
Meet Deborah Hsu, MD, MEd, Inaugural Division Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine & Vice Chair of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
Our new pediatric emergency department melds expert care with child-centered space
Stanford's Marc and Laura Andreessen Pediatric Emergency Department opened in 2022, and provides a bright, light-filled space abounding with images of nature and interactive installations designed to calm both patients and parents and to reflect the design of Stanford Medicine Children’s Health.
The child-focused space is fully staffed with board-certified pediatric emergency physicians and pediatric emergency-trained nurses and technicians. They provide the highest level of care for ailments ranging from ear infections to complications of chronic or congenital diseases, sports or school mishaps, to major trauma. Child life specialists, who distract and educate children during exams and procedures, have received graduate-level training. The airy space provides clear sight lines to a child’s care team during the visit. Read more.
Take a video tour of the Stanford Marc and Laura Andreessen Pediatric Emergency Department and hear from Drs. Cherrelle Smith, Mia Karamatsu, Guillermo De Angulo and others about what makes this space so special for patients and clinicians alike.
