We are proud to boast one of the most diverse and accomplished faculty in the country. Faculty have come to the program from residencies all over the country. Research interests vary, and include, among others, wilderness medicine and snakebites, new educational technologies, circadian rhythms and shift work, as well as wound healing and tissue adhesives. They provide a broad spectrum of expertise to all residents. Whether recent graduates or “veterans,” faculty remain committed to the education of our residents and support a strong faculty mentor program to guide each resident through his or her training.

Recent faculty honors include the 2003 CORD Faculty Teaching Award given to Dr. Swaminatha Mahadevan at the SAEM National Conference in Boston and the 2004 Kaiser Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching and 2001 EMRA Award for Excellence in Teaching to Dr. Gus Garmel, our Co-Program Director.
Residents agree that it is also the intangibles that make the faculty outstanding: discussing interesting cases over breakfast after an overnight shift, volunteering images and guidance for a resident presentation, finding a teaching point in every case, or even discussing career opportunities in Nepal!
