Fever Treater

Knowing how much Tylenol or Motrin to give your child can be challenging. Package inserts only provide an age or weight range. Moreover the dosing recommendations are often low.

We have created a dosing wheel for Tylenol and Motrin based on the exact weight of your child. Simply set the wheel to the weight of your child and read how much Tylenol or Motrin to dispense. It's that simple.

Our dosing wheel is free for every child who comes to the Stanford pediatric emergency department with a fever.

Dosing Wheel Instructions

1. Look at the correct side of the wheel for the medication being given (Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen).

2. Determine which concentration of medication you have (children's or infant's).

3. Turn the wheel to your child's weight indicated in pounds/lbs.

4. Administer the amount (mL) displayed.

5. Turn the clock in the center to the time the medication is given. This will serve as a reminder for the next dose . Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is given every 4 hours. Ibuprofen (Motrin) is given every 6-8 hours.
