Pediatric Emergency Medicine
Children need specialized care, especially during an emergency. At the Stanford Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, we understand that children are not small adults, and we strive to create an environment of comfort.
As a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, we offer comprehensive 24-hour emergency care that includes direct access to world-ranked pediatric specialists.
We are proud to train the next generation of pediatric emergency phsyicians. Our top-tier residents receive robust training in a comprehensive, immersive experience. Our two ACGME-approved fellows are focused on leading-edge research in pediatric emergency care.
The new Stanford Hospital, set to open in 2019, will double floor space of the current emergency department, and feature advanced diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical technologies, as well as innovations in pediatric emergency medicine.
Collaboration with Lucille Packard Children's Hospital
In 2017, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford opened its new main building next to Stanford Hospital. The emergency department of Stanford Hospital continues to serve as the emergency treatment facility for the Packard Children's. In an emergency, bring your child first to the Stanford Hospital Pediatric Emergency Department. If they need to stay overnight, Stanford will coordinate a seamless transfer of care to Packard Children's (or another appropriate facility).
