Disaster Medicine at Stanford
Disaster Medicine is the art and science of patient care under circumstances of stress when a number of patients exceeds the normal medical capacities, and in which a sudden concentration of casualties overwhelms existing medical facilities and personnel. Disaster Medicine is concerned with the health, medical, and emotional issues of disaster casualties; and the elements of disaster management, including planning, mitigation, assessment, response, and recovery.

Office of Service Continuity & Disaster Planning (OSCDP)
Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital has an office to ensure sustained medical center business continuity and optimal quality patient care and service during and after the event of a natural or man-made disaster. Their mission is to identify, create, establish and test emergency management systems that provide for mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery for Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.
The OSCDP seek to establish best practices and new standards for emergency management and to be recognized as an industry leader by creating a Center of Excellence in Emergency Management and advancing the field of Disaster Medicine.
